Patrick Hazlewood

Dr Patrick Hazlewood - Chief Executive Officer

Patrick has 23 years of 11-18 Headship experience at two different schools – the latest inspection at St John’s was a judgement of Outstanding in all areas. He has a PhD in Educational Leadership; is an accredited practising Ofsted Inspector; Chair of Wiltshire LA School Intervention Panel 1999-2003; member of the RSA Curriculum Development Committee 2000-2012, and a Visiting Fellow at University of Bristol, specialising in Strategic Leadership. Plus personally Patrick has been judged as an outstanding classroom practitioner during Ofsted (4 inspections Science/Chemistry/Physics).

Mrs Nicky Edmondson

Mrs Nicky Edmondson - Head of Teaching School Alliance and Leadership Development

Nicky is currently Principal of St John’s Marlborough, her third headship, and Head of Excalibur Teaching School Alliance. With over 17 years of senior leadership experience across five comprehensive schools in different contexts, Nicky is still a practising English teacher, judged by Ofsted to be outstanding. She is an experienced coach and mentor and has worked with Bath Spa University on their PGCE programme.
Through Excalibur Teaching School Alliance, Nicky is able to provide school to school support, leadership coaching and a wide range of professional development for senior and middle leaders, teachers, support staff, and governors.

Ms Catriona Mangham

Ms Catriona Mangham - Head of Academy Improvement

Catriona has been a Principal for over 7 years nd has turned a failing inner city school into a high achieving oversubscribed organisation. Catriona is also an Associate Head teacher for PIXL
supporting four other schools to raise achievement, a mentor Head teacher for Ofsted and has recently been asked by the DFE to join their Women into
Leadership programme as a mentor. She is also a coach on leadership for the ASPIRE foundation and a National Leader of Education.
Catriona has also worked with HTI on key projects, lectures at Bristol University regularly and has been a keynote speaker for many organisations on leadership and moral purpose.
Catriona specialism is leadership in challenging circumstances and she is able to support new
and experienced Head teachers in this role as well as working with Senior Leaders on leadership particularly around accountability, monitoring and
evaluation.

Mrs Sarah Cardy - Head of Inclusion and AEN

Sarah has over 20 years teaching experience and 13 years’ experience as SENCo in both primary and secondary schools and is currently SENCo for St John’s, Marlborough. In 2014, she planned and led the first Excalibur Academies Trust SpLD Awareness Day, collaborating with local dyslexia and specific learning difficulty specialists. Sarah has been judged as an outstanding practitioner in both primary and secondary inspections and has her NPQH.

Mr Martin Cook - Logistics Director

Martin has extensive experience managing both teaching and support teams. He has led a highly successful Geography team, introduced Environmental Science into the curriculum and held a range of middle management roles. As Director of Logistics, Martin co-ordinated the complex move from two school sites into one new building. He has been judged Outstanding by Ofsted, has achieved NPQH status and holds a NEBOSH National General Certificate in H & S. Amongst many of his responsibilities in this senior role, Martin oversees Excalibur site management, is responsible for Health and Safety across the Trust and masterminds new project development.

Karen Davis - Chief Finance and Operations Officer

Karen has a commercial background in consultancy, programme management and IT. She moved into the education sector 10 years ago; was a Lead Practitioner with the SSAT; and became Chief Financial Officer in 2014. Karen focuses on governance, development projects and has an impressive track record in securing grants.

Mr Chris Field - Head of ICT strategy and impact

Christopher studied Computer Science at the University of St Andrews and worked in the financial services and statutory sectors after graduating. He qualified as a teacher in 2011 and has taught Computer Science and Business Studies at St John’s Marlborough across key stages 3-5. He was formally observed by Ofsted in their most recent inspection and has been consistently graded as an ‘Outstanding’ practitioner across subjects.

Christopher was appointed as the Co-ordinator of E-Safety in 2012, promoted to Key Stage Leader in 2015 and successfully completed the Middle Leadership Programme. He has always been passionate about technology and continues to explore how it can be used to enhance teaching and learning. To impart his knowledge Christopher has delivered several assemblies to students, organised events for parents and provided training during staff development sessions.

As the Excalibur Strategic ICT Director Christopher is responsible for providing support to stakeholders, consulting with partners, identifying efficiencies and promoting a consistent but effective ICT strategy across the Trust.

Ms Sarah Frame - Director of Teaching Alliance

Sarah has over 20 years teaching experience in Swindon and Wiltshire schools as both a Maths and ICT Teacher. She has led in many areas of the secondary Maths and ICT curriculum and her roles have ranged from: Director of ICT; to Pupil Premium Co-ordinator and Maths Subject Lead Tutor for a SCITT. Sarah has also worked as a teacher on the Children’s Ward at the Great Western Hospital. As a Senior Leader, Sarah holds the position of Director of Excalibur Teaching School Alliance; responsible for leading and developing the strategy for the Teaching School - offering provision across the Alliance in Initial Teacher Training, School to School Support and Continued Professional Development.

Ms Kelly Harmer - Head of Communications and Marketing

Kelly has a BA Hons degree in English Literature and has enjoyed success in both the commercial and education sector. As Business Development and Marketing Manager at Fairfield High School she won multiple grants and implemented strategies which resulted in the school being oversubscribed. Kelly was Head of Events at Plymouth Pavilions where her responsibility of venue and destination marketing led to securing and managing large-scale National conferences, resulting in an estimated economic impact of £2.1million per year for the City.

Ms Kim Jones - HR Director

Kim spent 10 years working in Financial Services as an Executive Assistant to the Chairman. In her next role she spent 11 years working for two small businesses (one as an owner) with responsibility for Staff, H&S and Accounts. With a passion to become involved in education and make a difference, she became a Staffing Governor for nine years (and as Chair for two years) of a local primary school. Kim joined St John’s in September 2010 and successfully completed the Diploma of School Business Management in March 2013. She is responsible for HR and Strategy across the Trust.

Mrs Anne Normington

Mrs Anne Normington - Director of Policy

Anne has worked in primary education for over thirty years. She has developed specialisms and earned qualifications in a range of subjects and areas of education, including Special Educational Needs. She has been head teacher of Ogbourne C of E Primary School since 2010. She is also currently Principal of Oare C of E Primary School.

Richard Smith

Mr Richard Smith - Director of Teaching and Learning

Richard has been National Lead for several curriculum projects including Opening Minds (RSA 2001-2012); Oxfam Global Citizenship Project; DflD Global Curriculum Project and QCA national projects curriculum redesign. Richard has been judged as an outstanding practitioner in English by Ofsted on three separate inspections, and was part of the prestigious first cohort of the Fast Track Teaching Programme. As a Senior Leader for eight years, Richard holds NPQH and is currently a School Development Partner for a Free School in Reading.

Mrs Val Wright - Finance Director

Val graduated with a Degree in Civil Engineering and worked for Mott MacDonald for 10 years as Highway Design Engineer. Following a career break, she retrained gaining Membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians while working for Old Mill Accountancy as VAT Service Manager. Val joined St Johns Marlborough in 2010 as Finance Manager and completed the CSBM course through the National College. As Finance Director she is responsible for the financial reporting of all the academies within Excalibur. She also oversees the payroll service for the Trust’s employees.
