Meet inspirational Loraine Springer of FHS

‘I work as an Extreme Caseload and Community Engagement Officer. My role is to act as a contact to home, school and student.  I have regular 1-2-1 contact with students where we look at their behaviour and achievement logs, attendance, uniform and occasionally I attend lessons to get an overview of what is occurring in order to provide necessary feedback and to help students to take responsibility for their own learning by identifying how their lessons could be improved.

My duties include:

  • 1-2-1 with students to discuss their progress (weekly)
  • Year 11 tutor group for students in need of support (12-15 students)
  • Weekly telephone calls to parents
  • Negotiated transfers to another school including support such as accompanying the student to their new school and attending necessary meetings
  • Home visits
  • Parents evenings
  • Prom organiser

Outside of FHS I work in the community as a local radio presenter and I organise social events in order to raise monies for the elderly; I find this very rewarding as it gives me a great insight into the community in which I work and live and it also means that I come into contact with some students and their parents, which can be really beneficial in my role.

FHS is a great school to work at; the students and community play a large part in making this multi- cultural school such a fantastic place to work in and it is now also one of the top 5 schools in Bristol.’

Nick Lewis, Head of School at FHS describes Loraine: ‘Loraine is a real team player and gives so much to make Fairfield the successful school it is. Her ability to network widely helps us engage our many communities’
